Just one week after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry went public with accusations of racism and bullying against the British royal family, new reports suggest that Meghan Markle could be planning a presidential run.
According to The Daily Mail, a senior figure in the Labour Party — whom the outlet described as “a veteran of Tony Blair’s Downing Street administration with strong links to Washington” — said Markle is talking to top Democrats in hopes of building a future presidential campaign and fundraising strategy.
“The Blairite, internationalist and Democratic party networks are buzzing with talk about Meghan’s political ambitions and potential backers,” the source said.
Markle is supposedly looking to run as early as 2024.
But if Markle wants a real shot at the White House, she will have to go head to head with Democratic Party stars like Vice President Kamala Harris.
This is not the first we’ve heard about Markle’s interest in American politics.
After Markle and Prince Harry urged Americans to “reject hate speech” and participate in the 2020 election last year, Vanity Fair reported that Markle has political ambitions that include the White House.
“One of the reasons she was so keen not to give up her American citizenship was so she had the option to go into politics. I think if Meghan and Harry ever gave up their titles she would seriously consider running for president,” a “close friend” of Markle said.
