The elderly won the pandemic

If you think older Americans have struggled to cope through the pandemic, think again. According to new research by financial services firm Edward Jones, they have actually been faring far better than their younger counterparts. The Edward Jones and Age Wave Study focused exclusively on how different generations have held up emotionally and financially in the months since the lockdowns began, and some of its findings are at least as startling as how quickly even 70-year-olds came to love Zoom. “COVID-19’s impact forever changed the reality of many Americans, yet…

Thoughts on George Floyd

Derek Chauvin And George Floyd

This commentary is not so much about the issue of racism – or even systemic racism – where it may or may not exist.  It is about the way we see and react to events through the lens of racism and racist narratives.  The Floyd case is a perfect example of the problem. Virtually all the reports – those media narratives – we saw and heard throughout and since the trial were conversations about assumed racism.  It was the racism of one cop – who is said to reflect the inherent…

Oscar Night Proves Movie Stars Cannot Do Television

The Oscars Logo

There was a lot of hype for the 93rd Annual Oscar Awards – a lot.  It was to be different – more exciting – more entertaining.  We should not expect less since they ARE the entertainment industry. They did make a lot of changes.  There was no celebrity host to stitch the show together – and provide some comic relief as a counterpoint to the droning acceptance speeches.  If I were to give a summary critique of the evening, I would say that everyone was well dressed.  As might be…

Biden Is Lying About Georgia Election Laws

All during his campaign for President, Joe Biden kept promising to bring the nation together – to be unifier-in-chief.  He has not only fallen short of that ambition, he has proven himself to be a strident left-wing authoritarian ideologue.  What he does is so far removed from what he says that Biden is turning out to be a despicable divisive fraud. Whew!  That is pretty harsh.  But one only need look at the record of what he said on the hustings and what he says and does now.  He has…

Biden’s Foreign Policy Is Dangerous

While President Biden is myopically focused on domestic policy – mainly how to grow the federal government into an authoritarian behemoth – the foreign scene is going to Hell. Biden has basically canceled all of President Trump’s tough foreign policy measures to return to the speak-softly-and-carry-no-stick policies of the past.  This guy cannot even talk tough. Virtually every nation in the world today knows well that America under Biden and the left-wing establishment will play a passive role on the world stage. It is even worse than President Obama’s oxymoronic…

Why Does Trump Hate Mitch McConnell?

One of former President Trump’s least admirable traits is his habit of turning on friends and allies out of personal pique. It has not served the Republican Party well … or the conservative cause … or even Trump, himself. There is no person in politics to whom I pledge fealty – not even Trump.  I am driven by the issues and the skill with which those on my side pursue them.  I may not agree with every position or action taken by such people as Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Ted…

Should private donations be banned in politics?

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (R) last weekend signed a bill that bans private donations for election processes in the state.  “With public confidence in our elections in peril, it’s clear our elections must be pristine and above reproach – and the sole purview of government,” said Ducey.  The bill passed the Arizona Legislature with no support from Democrats. It is largely a response to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s $419 million donation to local and state election offices in 2020.  Zuckerberg claims his money went to “nonpartisan” groups “to promote safe…

Brooke Baldwin Leaves CNN and Plays the Victim of Sexism

Brooke Baldwin CNN Anchor

CNN is making a number of changes in their line-up.  It is probably due to the relatively poor ratings that the inexplicably self-described “most watched” news channel has been suffering.  The most significant change is moving “CNN New Day” co-host Alisyn Camerota into the afternoon replacement for departing Brooke Baldwin. Baldwin’s departure is one of those “who do you believe” situations.  Was she fired?  Did she quit?  Did she quit under pressure (fired)?  We may never know – and probably should not care. What can be said is that Baldwin is…

Proof That Democrats Hate Honest Elections

I Voted Stickers On Graves

There are many ways that votes can be – and are — stolen or manipulated.  There is a lot of debate over such things as various forms of mail-in voting, the days and hours of early voting and the security of same-day voting. But there is overwhelming public support for two measures that Democrats strongly oppose.  They are a requirement for a photo ID and the purging of ineligible voters from the local polling lists.  More than 70 percent of the American people endorse both – siding with Republicans and…

Arizona Fights Back Against Gun Control

Arizona’s newest law protects gun owners from anticipated federal overreach. It prohibits local police from enforcing any policy that violates the Second Amendment.  “We in the state of Arizona don’t want the federal government to infringe on our Second Amendment rights regardless whether it’s banning background checks or AR15’s, it’s up to the state to decide that,” said the bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Leo Biasiucci (R). Critics view the law as unconstitutional and hope the courts will overturn it. “I think whenever there are these mass shootings we start talking…
