Dr. Peter Hotez Weaponizes Medicine

Part of my job is to follow the news across the wide philosophic divide.  That connects me with a legion of personalities – anchors, analysts, reporters, contributors and panelists.  Some provide information. But for the most part, they come to the Fourth Estate with a partisan political bias – some more strident than others.  That also includes the so-called medical and scientific professionals.

We are often advised to follow the science and listen to the scientists.  But they seem to have as diverse opinions as the politicians.  In fact, they seem to get their seats in front of the camera based proffering opinions consistent with the bias of the media platform.

The most prominent medical authority is Dr. Anthony Fauci.  He has been right.  He has been wrong.  And his opinions seem to bend a bit to the perspective of the boss – initially President Trump and later President Biden.  That is why there are so many recorded flip-flops.

Another popular doctor is Ezekiel Emmanuel.  Being the brother of Progressive Democrat majordomo Rahm Emmanuel, one can expect his medical perspective to be somewhat influenced by politics.  But he is not the worst of them.

Others associated with left-wing media include CNN’s in-house Doctor Sanjay Gupta and MNBC’s favorite Dr. Vin Gupta.  FOX News relies on Dr. Marc Siegal who gives quite different interpretations of the same data – or relies on different data.

Virtually everything we are told by doctors on television is a matter of opinion – and often opinion shaded by political bias.  Medicine is not an exclusively empirical science.  That is why it is considered good advice to get a second opinion when facing a serious medical issue.  That is also good advice when it comes to television doctors.

There are television doctors who present their professional opinions through a very narrow and strident political perspective – and they tend to peddle their opinion as fact or truth.  They regard any deviation or disagreement as being anti-science.  In some cases, their opinions are so intoxicated with their political view that their advice is worthless.

That recalls one of the liberal media’s favorite medical attack dogs – Dr. Peter Hotez.  He seems to see his public mission to attack Republicans and conservatives more than presenting a valuable medical perspective.

For the record, Hotez is Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

In Hotez’s many, many appearances on television, it is almost impossible to find a report on the Covid-19 pandemic that was not riddled with ridicule of President Trump, congressional Republicans and conservative political activists.

In a recent interview, Hotez reached a new height of propaganda prattle.  In fact, one could almost argue his hatred for all that is politically right-of-center is starting to take on the symptoms of paranoia.

He sees a deadly wave of anti-science activism spreading across the nation – and even the world.  He claims it all started with the Tea Party Movement and spread to the entire Republican Party.  He folds in the neo-Nazis and white supremacists into his broad-brush smear.  He blames a massive anti-vax and anti-mask movement that threatens the lives of millions – and has attacked him personally.

Like so many on the left these days, Hotez seems to believe in his right or ability to speak ex cathedra – with absolute correctness.  Any disagreement or alternative opinion is hearsay.

It is the intensity of his political bias that has me disregarding any medical opinions he proffers.  Oh … Hotez maybe correct about a lot of things, but it is not worth the effort to distinguish his medical perspective from his political bias.  There are far more credible doctors on both sides of the issues.

You can see why CNN and other left-wing news platforms have plucked him out of the tens of thousands of doctors with similar experience, stature and resume.  He is employed for his political spin—not his unique medical knowledge.

I understand that if the good doctor were to read this, he would take it as just another attack by a right-wing Neanderthal.  Sorry Hotez.  I am not antivax (have had both my Covid-19 shots) or anti-mask (where necessary).  I do not have a racist prejudice of any kind – and I can prove it, but not in this space at this time.

I am critical of Hotez because he manifests a propensity to demean and malign millions of people – like me — who do not share his far-left political views.  People who hear the opinions of credible medical professionals who have professional disagreements with Hotez.  He twists, spins and distorts medical facts and statistics in order to attack and degrade political adversaries.

Hotez affirms to me that impressive resumes and professional awards do not necessarily guarantee that the person is not merely a hateful nutcase with advance degrees.

So, there ‘tis.

Sometimes I think it would be more humane for Biden to continue his human murder on us by telling the military to go door to door to murder us than slow murder by his idiotic mask mandates. And what he is doing is murder. Kamala is part of that, too! Their new names are Mr. and Mrs. Hitler.
