Google Deletes 100,000 Bad Reviews of Robinhood

Robinhood Stock Trading Platform

Google is helping Robinhood protect its reputation after the stock trading platform received backlash for banning users from buying stock in GameStop. Earlier this week, a group of Reddit users collectively planned to buy tons of shares of GameStop, causing the stock price to skyrocket. Citing “recent volatility,” Robinhood stopped allowing users to buy stock in GameStop. Robinhood received harsh criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike, including AOC and Ted Cruz.

But Google once again used its censorship expertise to help Robinhood by deleting 100,000 negative reviews of the stock trading company.

Google said it deleted the reviews because of their policy that “prohibits reviews that have the intent of manipulating an app’s rating.” Hmm. Isn’t that what reviews are for?

Google also said that the company “combines human intelligence with machine learning to detect and enforce policy violations in ratings and reviews.”

After the recent events, Robinhood has not seen any new reviews on the app store. The company still has its rating of 4.7 stars. But some users are taking a step further than leaving a bad review. A class-action lawsuit has been launched in New York against the company.

Robinhood responded to the backlash by now allowing “limited buys” of certain stocks. They also said their choice to ban certain stocks was “a risk-management decision.”
