Gay Activists Slam Mayor Pete For Ties to Salvation Army

Leading LGBTQ activists are slamming Democratic candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg for his ties to the Salvation Army, an organization that the activists say is actively hostile to gays.

According to a recent report in Out Magazine, the South Bend mayor has participated several times in the “Red Kettle Ring Off” for the Christmas season in the Indiana city.

Out shared a link to reports of Mayor Pete attending the annual charity event in local South Bend media from 2015 and 2017, and at least one other photo from 2016 surfaced on Twitter. In 2018, he held the annual Mayor’s Night Out — an open-listening event to let residents quiz city officials — at a Salvation Army community center.

The magazine – which claims to have the highest circulation of any LGBTQ monthly publication in the United States — called the Salvation Army a homophobic organization “justified by religion,” noting among other things that it had claimed religious exemptions from a San Francisco ordinance on gay-partner benefits and that a 2012 spokesman had said gay relationships go “against the will of God.”

“Even famously homophobic chicken peddlers Chick-fil-A recently severed its relationship with the Salvation Army, and when you’re gay and less sensitive about anti-queerness than Chick-fil-A, that’s pretty bleak,” Out magazine wrote.

Pro-gay Twitter denizens were even less kind to “Mayor Pete.”

“Surprised he’s not eating chic-fil-a in this photo,” wrote one user, while another called him an “Uncle Tom.”

Get over it, everybody in the world is not going to agree with you, they have the same rights as you do, they can express their opinion and you are free to express yours, that’s the end of it. My rights don’t end where your feelings begin. There are far more important things to be concerned about than whether or not everybody is accepting your life style or not. Protesting Chick-fila was absurd, they serve anybody, the fact they contribute to a group that doesn’t agree with you shouldn’t be your concern at all.

  2. How is it that 3 -4 % of the total population believes they can dictate to the other 96% how we should behave toward the 4% I could care holy hell less about the 4 % and what they do or how they behave but will do anything it takes to have them out of organizations i am interested in.

  3. Does anyone know the definition of the word ‘phobia’? It means “an unreasoning fear”. As a member of The Salvation Army for more than 60 years, I have never seen anyone exhibit an “unreasoning fear” of anyone in the LGBTQ+ community. As a follower of Christ, we are commanded to “love the sinner, but hate the sin”.

  4. Leave the mayor alone. Omg he’s aloud to attend any thing he wants to. You LGBTQ are ridiculous making a big deal out of this, seriously? Omg the world is a mess, our country is upside down and all your concerned with is the mayor visiting the Salvation Army. You all are so ridiculous it makes me sick. Get off the mayor’s back. Who are you to judge him for going to the Salvation Army, get a life, be realistic here because life to short and your gripping about this. You all make me sick and this is why I never like these groups. It causes seperation in society. Live your lives like everyday is your last instead of being nit picky and arguing over where the mayor attends and I am happy he attended their because they help so many people. Drop it, he’s allowed to go where he wants anytime he wants to because it doesn’t mean he’s against any of you. Grow up and stop the negative crap you all are pulling. LEAVE MAYOR PETE ALONE.

For crying over the diced onions, those idiots within the LGBTQ community consider anyone who is not Homosexual, Bisexual, or Transsexual to be hostile to them they are seriously psychotic people.

  6. Salvation Army helps the needed the homeless the starving that has no place to turn too. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, is against the teachings of God.

  8. I am a very strong supporter of President Trump and could care less about this candidate, but I want to may a point. If the LGBT would get their brains out from between their legs and put it where it belongs, the people of this country might respect them more. I could care less if your a LGBT, but let’s keep it yourselves and stop parading it around like a new found body part. It’s been around for thousands of years.

  9.
