Democrats Call for Permanent Wall

Fence Around Capitol Building

After the January 6 riot at the US Capitol, the building has since been surrounded by barricades and fencing. Ironically, many Democrats are calling for a permanent wall to surround the building after 4 years of claiming walls are “offensive” and “inhumane,” referring to Trump’s border wall.

Yogananda Pittman, U.S. Capitol Police Chief, is calling for permanent fencing to surround the Capitol building after she ordered the department to “conduct a physical security assessment of the entire Capitol Complex” two days after the January 6th riot.

“In light of recent events, I can unequivocally say that vast improvements to the physical security infrastructure must be made to include permanent fencing, and the availability of ready, back-up forces in close proximity to the Capitol,” Pittman said.

“I look forward to working with Congress on identifying the security improvements necessary to ensure the safety and security of the Congress and the U.S. Capitol,” she added.

The Responses

Steven Portnoy, CBS News Radio White House Correspondent, pointed out that the Capitol has never had permanent fencing in the 220 years the building has been standing.

Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) also responded, saying “This is wrong. We serve in the People’s House–we need to be safe, but cutting off access to the Capitol isn’t the answer.”

Many twitter users also pointed out the hypocrisy of Congress being protected by a permanent fence after four years of Democrats adamantly opposing former President Trump’s border wall. Last week, Joe Biden signed an executive order requiring all border wall construction come to an end.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said, “The first wall the Democrats support.”

Former White House national security aide Sebastian Gorka pointed out, “So walls work. Just not at the border.”

Kira Davis, editor at RedState, noted, “So we won’t build a wall to keep non-citizens from busting into our country illegally but we’ll build a wall around the People’s House to keep the citizens out. Got it. Got that America? You’re not welcome in your own buildings.”

  1. So walls on are important when it comes to a divisive politician? Not protecting the country from foreign invasion, drugs and human trafficking?
The hypocrisy from the Left, shows how far they have their heads up their backside!
The American people see what hypocrites the Left has become.

  2. Marty

Stop the hypocrites! WDC does not need a permanent wall! But if Dems want one in DC then the border wall MUST be completed for their security!

  3. Do the Democrats who are demanding a permanent wall around the capitol building not see the hypocrisy when compared with their demands that the wall protecting us from illegal aliens swarming into our country? They are concerned for their personal safety and that they not be subjected to risk but not concerned about the safety of Americans.

  4. Are their egos so inflated that they miss the irony in this? There seems to be no limit in how they view their importance and need for safety versus the people they are supposed to SERVE! What’s next?

  5. Rog

Wouldn’t it be more efficient to root out all the corruption and represent the citizens that elected you. This is not an aristocratic nation. No castle walls.

  6. Full blown hypocrisy! The dems, and far, far, too many of the republicans have their heads somewhere besides where they’re supposed to be! Perks, and $$$ being gifted under the table, talks to them more than what We the People pay them for!! Except for a handfull of Republicans, they all need the boot!

My days for voting for any democrats are looking real slim.

  8. The Democrats are right in this point. They need a wall around themselves in Washington DC to keep them locked in as prisoners of their own devices and keep us out safe and sound from their fascist violence and tyranny. Keeping the Nation’s Capitol as a prison compound and being closed to the public may be a possible solution to protect the liberty and security for the rest of America.

  9. It’s the democrates that funded the riots to start with! Are they afraid of their own people?

  10. The hypocrisy of the democrats leaves me almost speechless how in Gods name can some citizens support them they are out of their mind.

  11. Shep Tim

What are they afraid of? Gee! You don’t think that a large number of Americans may think that this election was a fraud, does one? So they judge law abiding conservatives in the same class as there Marxist BLM and anarchist ANTIFA militia. One wonders. I guess anything to protect the communist compound. So now after these comments I suppose I’ll be on democrat gestapo’s hit list.

The Berlin Wall has arrived in Washington D.C. Has it sunk into you yet as to who builds these walls? Don’t waste you time talking about the Mexican border wall. That is a border. The U.S. Capitol belongs to US.

  13. Kevin oBrien

We got to keep the people out!

  14. RJ

Biden wanted to unite the American people. I guess building a fence to keep real American citizens out of the Nations Capital Buildings is the way you unite people. I use to snow slide down the hills around the U.S. Capitol when I was young and people actually worked together in D.C. to make it the “National Capitol of America” but now all we do is see who can divide us apart the fastest. No one is willing to step back and evaluate a problem they just want to “React” and that’s not solving a problem. Everyone has to work together and if we look deep in our hearts that’s what everyone wants and not to be led by people that just have a grudge towards one another. I say stop listening to the politicians of all parties and let’s start listening to our neighbors – they actually make more sense.

  15. If they would do a better job in Washington then they wouldn’t have to worry about people getting mad and upset and be scared for their safety !

  16. According to Democrats, the walls are “offensive” and “inhuman” – for criminals, drug dealers and illegal immigrants. And the permanent wall, firmly closing the “servants of the people” sitting in the Congress, from the eyes of the people who chose them there – this wall must be impenetrable so that voters do not know what crimes are committed in Congress behind this wall.

  17. Trish

What are they so afraid of that they locked the citizens out of the people’s house? Their paranoia is really gone too far. Solution, keep your antifa and blm terrorists friends out.

  18. Laurie

If they want to build a wall to keep the US citizens out then they should have to pay for it and not the tax payers along with all the other orders that Biden signed into effect. Who really caused the riot at the Capital. Let the Democrat’s pay out of their own pockets because they sure do not care about what we the American citizens want. They have their own agenda. We know how far they will go. Just look at the election with all the fraud they did. Look at the media who is silencing the truth. Who owns the media? The truth will be revealed and even when truth was revealed against those in power nothing was done to them but if we did it we would have been thrown in prison. Would they be willing to pass all these orders if they were made to pay for it out of their own pocket? Amen to Howdy Dooty’s statement and Kira Davis.

  19. F. Smith

So congress should stop pissing off those people who THEY WORK FOR and there would be no need for a fence around OUR CAPITOL BLDG! Start acting as if WE THE PEOPLE really matter and you would not have to fear WE THE PEOPLE!

  20. Hmm? Impenetrable from the outside? I would think that Congress might be afraid of being ‘locked in,’ possibly unable to exit when faced with internal or nearby disaster.

A wise plan would FIRST begin with an honest and in-depth investigation, to come to an accurate assessment of precisely what took place, who should be called to account, followed by immediate legal proceedings. ALL security options should be carefully considered before JUMPING to a narrow-sighted decision. A reassessment of basic security that could be sustained while still welcoming the ‘people’ to enter “their” building. Why is it that the almighty and powerful United States of America seems unable to maintain peace (ignoring violence across the land while making strides in helping other countries accomplish the same goal for their homeland? The very real underlying problems in the USA must be openly addressed. Corruption is rampant and rather than developing unity, devisiveness continues to lead to aggression and violence in the name of ‘my way’ and the dangerous road to gain wealth and power have grown to a level of evil. Where will it stop? One day, the wrath of the Almighty God will intervene…until that day, I pray for us all.
