Congresswoman Deb Haaland of New Mexico, has now been confirmed as the new Secretary of the Interior.  That makes her the first Native American to serve in the Cabinet. The Catholic Society of Jesus (Jesuits) are putting up an astounding $100 million to be paid in the form of reparations for the slaves the religious order once owned.  The “settlement” involves the descendants of slaves the Jesuits sold in 1838.  At the time of the sale, the Jesuits had relied on slave labor for more than 100 years – buying and selling in the slave markets as was the practice at the time. Columbia University is offering six different graduation ceremonies that will be segregated by race, sexuality, and income level. The university shared details about the virtual graduation ceremonies in an announcement on the website. The segregated graduation ceremonies are supplements to a main university-wide virtual graduation ceremony. “Complementing our school- and University-wide ceremonies, these events provide a more intimate setting for students and guests to gather, incorporate meaningful cultural traditions and celebrate the specific contributions and achievements of their communities,” the website says. The US-Mexico border is overrun with migrants seeking to enter the country now that Joe Biden is president. “The Biden Admin. has created a disaster on the border,” tweeted Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R). “Record 3,200 migrant children stuck in Border Patrol custody + many who are not children. The federal government must fix this immediately.” Without adequate housing, border patrol officials have been forced to hold unaccompanied minors in cells meant for adults. Cold War rivals China and Russia met virtually on Tuesday to sign a historic agreement outlining plans to construct a research station on the Moon.  The International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) will be a “comprehensive scientific experiment base with the capability of long-term autonomous operation,” said China’s National Space Administration. The first-of-its-kind proposal did not include a timeline, though officials confirmed that other countries would be allowed to participate.
