For today’s generation, Hitler is the most hated man in history. His regime has become the the archetype of political evil.
However, this view does not extend to his economic policies. To the contrary, many of his policies are embraced by governments all around the world.
For example, the Glenview state bank of Chicago famously praised Hitler‘s economics in its monthly newsletter. In doing so, the bank discovered the hazard of praising Keynesian policies in the wrong context.
Whether in Germany or the United states, the controversy highlights the ways in which the connection between violence and central planning is still not understood.
In the 1930s, Hitler was widely viewed as just another protectionist central planner who recognized the supposed failure of the free market and the need for nationally guided economic development.
Proto-keynesian socialist economist Joan Robinson wrote that Hitler found a cure against unemployment. Keynes himself supported Hitler’s chief economic policies:
- suspension of the gold standard
- development of huge public works programs like the Audubon
- protection of industry from foreign competition
- expanded credit
- institution of job programs
- Bullying of private sector on prices and production decisions
- vastly expanded the military
- enforced capital controls
- instituted family planning
- penalized smoking
- brought about national health care and unemployment insurance
- imposed educational standards
Such programs remain widely praised. Today, even given their failures, they are features of every capitalist democracy.
Before we demand central planning from our own governments, we should remember where many of these practices originated – and their eventual conclusions.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) violated her own rules for the 117th Congress when she called herself “a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a daughter” on the House floor during the debate about President Trump’s second impeachment.
“I stand before you today as an officer of the Constitution, as Speaker of the House of Representatives,” Pelosi said. She continued, “I stand before you as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a daughter, a daughter whose father proudly served in this Congress.”
But just this month, Pelosi and Rules Committee Chairman James McGovern (D-MA) announced the rules for the 117th Congress, which had “future-focused” proposals. These included completely eliminating terms that reference gender, such as “father, mother, son, and daughter.”
The proposal also included the “Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth.” This requires Congress to “honor all gender identities by changing pronouns and familial relationships in the House rules to be gender neutral.”
In clause 8(c)(3) of rule XXIII, terms such as “father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half brother, half sister, grandson, or granddaughter” are removed.
In their place, terms like “parent, child, sibling, parent’s sibling, first cousin, sibling’s child, spouse, parent-in-law, child-in-law, sibling-in-law, stepparent, stepchild, stepsibling, half-sibling, or grandchild” are to be used.
A few days later, Democrats officially passed the sexless speech codes for the House of Representatives.
But Pelosi violated her own rules as she stood before Congress on Wednesday during a House hearing on the impeachment of President Trump.
One of the subtext narratives being circulated by the leftwing is that a number of Democrat members of Congress are claiming to have caught Covid-19 from Republican members who were not wearing masks as they sat around a safe room during the height of the Capitol Hill riot. But did they?
First, there has been no direct evidence as to where the members may have caught the virus. It is only speculation – and may be politically motivated. The story is making the rounds on the elitist east coast media as if it is factually true.
What casts a shadow of suspicion over the accuracy of the claim is that none of the accused Republican legislators has proven positive. If one or two were to test positive in the next few days, the timing would suggest that those Republicans likely caught it from the Democrats in the room – despite the masks. After all, we have been told that masks are significantly less effective in preventing a healthy person from getting the disease than they are for already infected persons spreading the disease.
Another fact that questions the claim relates to Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. In earlier videos, she was seen in the House chamber and in the gallery without a mask – and among other maskless Democrat colleagues – before taken to the safe room (pictured above). Hmmmm. Maybe she was the source of the Covid-19 in the room. I really do not know – but that is as possible as the current politically-oriented Democrat narrative.
Then there is the video of Delaware Democrat Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester offering masks to Republican legislatures. It looks like a set up to me. I am not surprised that those not wearing masks would decline her gift. She would likely have known that before she started handing them out. What bothered me, someone made a video of her giving out the masks.
That does not seem like the kind of action that would naturally have someone suddenly record the one-minute video. Even if someone wanted to record the one- or two-minute action, it would have been over by the time the person started shooting. In other words, I think Rochester and the videography may have been producing the event for later release as a bit of political propaganda. I cannot prove that, but I am highly suspicious.
You can see how the video was used to perpetuate the dubious narrative. Even President-elect Joe Biden said he was disgusted when viewing the video. In the trade, we call that pumping up a story.
Rochester said that one Democrat member — whose mask was around his neck — accepted the additional mask. She explained his lack of face-covering was because he was talking on his cell phone. Really? You cannot talk on the phone with a mask on?
Congressional physician Dr. Brian Monahan waded in with an email that said: “The time in this room was several hours for some and briefer for others. During this time, individuals may have been exposed to another occupant with coronavirus infection.” If that is true – and based on the various test results – the culprits are more likely to have been the Democrat members.
The sadness of this event is the media once again passing off an anti-Republican narrative as fact without any fair analysis of actual facts.
This may be considered a small event, but it did get a lot of coverage – including harsh criticism of the Republicans, as usual. It is, however, illustrative how the left and the media work together to create, package and magnify mendacious political narratives to malign the GOP.
So, there ‘tis.
Armed protests are expected to take place in all 50 state capitals next week, warned the FBI in a bulletin sent to cops nationwide.
“The FBI received information about an identified armed group intending to travel to Washington, DC on 16 January,” adds the memo. “They have warned that if Congress attempts to remove POTUS via the 25th Amendment, a huge uprising will occur.
House Democrats moved forward with impeachment efforts this week after Vice President Mike Pence refused to invoke the 25th Amendment. The impeachment effort – clearly designed to prevent Trump from running for office in 2024 – is guaranteed to exacerbate political tensions.
The protests are expected to begin late this week and continue through President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20th.
FBI agents expect extremists to take advantage of the chaos to wreak havoc – just as they did during the protests following the death of George Floyd. We can expect Antifa and China to play a role.
“We’re keeping a look across the entire country to make sure that we’re monitoring, and that our Guards in every state are in close coordination with their local law enforcement agencies to provide any support requested,” said Army General Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau.
On December 29th, the FBI issued a warning about the potential of armed protestors targeting lawmakers at the US Capitol. The agency is currently reviewing nearly 45,000 tips on expected violence related to the presidential transition.
San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) framework has six open situations for cops. In any case, they are rather filling those situations with social laborers to deal with issues including the destitute and individuals with psychological maladjustment or chronic drug use.
As indicated by the San Francisco Chronicle, the public travel framework has $2 million in its financial plan to use to fill the opportunities (for a normal compensation and advantages bundle worth about $333,000). They will utilize this to recruit a director and “20 emergency intercession trained professionals.” Last year, the board endorsed an arrangement that additional only 10 experts to BART’s dresser of reformist policing.
The BART plan expects to combine social specialists with an official on the off chance that the call gets fierce.
“This authority of reformist policing is overly significant in this time in our law requirement history,” Deputy Police Chief Angela Averiett, top of the reformist policing department, told the San Francisco Chronicle. She added, “It truly supplements our officials to help them in the work that they’ve been doing. I have gotten with many individuals that vagrancy never ought to have fallen on the shoulders of cops, and I end up concurring with that. It’s a cultural issue, yet actually we are the ones managing it.”
Information from BART found that 39% of police brings in 2020 identified with “prosperity and clinical help.” The was the greatest level of calls for administration. The second-most elevated class was admission issues, with 17% of the calls for administration. Wrongdoing represented only 8% of administration calls.
“The new arrangement was the consequence of commitment with the Police Department, association authority, forefront laborers, outside guides and riders, the introduction to the board says. Study results show 35% of these gatherings needed just a non military personnel reaction to the issues of vagrancy, psychological maladjustment and medication use, 27% just police and 17% a blend,” the Chronicle announced. “The discussion is the way the office will pay for the arrangement. The absolute work financial plan for the new authority’s 45 positions is $8.1 million, with an extra $400,000 in continuous preparing costs and $560,000 to purchase hardware.”
In June, the Mayor of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Democrat Tim Keller, reported that social specialists would react to nearly emergency calls rather than police.
“We’ve set an ever increasing number of issues on the plates of officials who are not prepared — notwithstanding their earnest attempts and regardless of some preparation — they’re not completely prepared to be a social specialist, or to be a dependence instructor, or to manage things around youngster misuse when they’re simply noting a call. We ought to have prepared experts do this, rather than people with a firearm and an identification,” Keller said.
Individuals from the Los Angeles City Council likewise marked a movement recommending unarmed social specialists react to certain emergency calls rather than police. In July, police in St. Petersburg, Florida, reported they would at this point don’t send cops to peaceful emergency calls, despite the fact that numerous calls start as peaceful however can rapidly heighten.
Medical providers were forced to throw unused Covid-19 vaccines in the trash after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo “had stuck to rigid guidelines that prioritized health care workers, and residents and staff of nursing homes and group homes,” according to The New York Times.
“Across New York State, medical providers in recent weeks had the same story: They had been forced to throw out precious vaccine doses because of difficulties finding patients who matched precisely with the state’s strict vaccination guidelines — and the steep penalties they would face had they made a mistake,” The New York Times report said.
On Saturday, when 151 New Yorkers died from COVID-19, state health officials changed the vaccine guidelines. They now allow medical providers to offer the vaccine to an employee who had contacted a member of the public. However, there would have to be extra doses available and the “priority population” would still get priority.
Before the revision made on Sunday, Cuomo was backtracking on his strict rules. On Friday, he stated that more “essential workers,” and New Yorkers older than 75 could start getting vaccinated.
Last Thursday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio asked, “Why don’t we just resolve this and give the City of New York the freedom to vaccinate high priority people as we see fit so we can speed up the vaccination process?” A Lohud.com report stated:
“New York will continue to restrict COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to health care workers and nursing homes despite calls from local governments to provide the shots to police, firefighters, teachers and elderly above 75, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday.”
At Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in Manhattan, Dr. Peter Meacher, chief medical officer, thought he was going to receive a small supply of Moderna’s vaccine for his staff. Instead, he got 600 doses and was forced to store over half of them in freezers.
He wanted to offer the extra vaccines to high-risk patients, but was worried that he would face consequences for violating the state’s guidelines. He told the Times, “It’s stressful and frustrating to have the vaccine and to be unable to start giving it to our patients as quickly as we would like.”
Alex M. Azar II, the secretary of the federal Department of Health and Human Services, told states they should not abide by harsh restrictions on vaccine rollout.
“There is no reason that states need to complete, say, vaccinating all health care providers before opening up vaccinations to older Americans or other especially vulnerable populations,” Azar said. He also said that states should not “leave vaccines sitting in freezers.”
Dr. Neil Calman, president of the Institute for Family Health, said, “We’re seeing them in our office, and it just seems like we’re turning them away today just so we can call them back in a week and say, ‘Now you can get your vaccine.’”
Every now and then, the arrogant elitism of the New York press corps slips out. We see it in their condescending attitude toward the masses living in fly-over America. In the kindest references, we hear that they are merely out of touch with the lives of Americans who do not belong to that unique class of snobby multi-millionaires that populate the political and press culture of the Big Apple. But if you follow the New York-based news industry, you will discover that they really look down on we the people as a lower and less enlightened class.
You will recall a former First Lady, former New York Senator, and 2016 Democrat candidate for President referring to Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables.” After a widespread backlash, that term was dropped — but the sentiment was not. The folks on CNN and MSNBC – as well as all the folks in the New York print media – you know, the New York Times, New York Magazine, the New Yorker, Atlantic Magazine, Vanity Fair and those other scribes who serve as pop-up panelists on CNN and MSNBC – continued their malignant slander against the middle class for not embracing their elitist leftwing authoritarian view of the world. We are said to be heartless and ignorant xenophobes, sexists, misogynists, racists, homophobe, Islamophobes, anti-Semites who sadly cling to our Bibles and guns.
The latest example comes from CNN’s Anderson Cooper. He disparaged ALL the folks who showed up at the Capitol Building on January 6th. He mocked all of those on Capitol Hill for quietly leaving the scene and “going to go back to the Olive Garden and to the Holiday Inn they’re staying at, or the Garden Marriott, and they’re going to have some drinks and talk about the great day they had in Washington.”
First of all, Cooper conflates and smears the thousands who came and went peacefully with the much smaller number who rioted – contrary to their custom of describing violent rioters in our cities as “peaceful demonstrators.” The latter contingent is being identified and rounded up by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies – as they should be.
While Olive Garden management had no comment, the Cooper remark set off an online firestorm from patrons of the Italian restaurant chain – and from folks who simply do not like to be looked down upon.
There can be no mistaking Cooper’s belief that the Olive Garden, the Holiday Inn, and the Marriott Garden hotels are the environments of the lower class. Why else would he connect them to a group of people for whom he has nothing but contempt?
Cooper apparently differentiates those places – and their clientele –from those who patronize The Jockey Club, Sardi’s, and the Ritz-Carlton. Let’s face it. Finding Cooper at an Olive Garden would be like sighting a penguin in Florida.
While the criticism of Cooper was widespread across the various media platform, the CNN host arbitrarily focused his on-air response to CNN’s media war target, FOX News and hosts Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity. While Carlson and Hannity opined on Cooper’s snobby comments, they did not create the nationwide reaction. It was an organic response to what Cooper said … period.
The reaction was sufficient to force Cooper to make that on-air response. It was not an apology, however. Arrogant people do not apologize. He doubled down on accusing all those participating in the demonstration as violent criminals. Then in a pathetic attempt at relating to the common man, Cooper said he likes artichoke dip at Olive Garden even though it has spinach – and he does not like spinach. I wonder if Cooper will next reveal his favorite pool hall in the Bronx or rib joint in Harlem. Nay!
Cooper suggested that those calling him out as an elitist snob were reacting to his pedigree – specifically his mother who he did not name. I wonder why. Maybe it is because his mother is heiress Gloria Vanderbilt – making Cooper the great-grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt – and scion of one of the snobbiest families in American history.
After excoriating FOX and its personalities, Cooper suggested that America does not need a divisive media battle – oblivious to the irrationality and inconsistency of his own attack on the FOX network.
We can safely say that Cooper did not grow up with an appreciation of America’s everyday working class. He is among the wealthiest of the cable news talking heads with a net worth north of $200 million dollars. He is the richest of a very rich category of news commentators. In fact, virtually every one of those folks you see on the networks are millionaires – including the reporters and regular panelists, such as James Acosta ($4 million), Joy Reid ($4 million), Lawrence O’Donnell ($16 million), Craig Melvin ($6 million), Rachel Maddow ($25 million), Chris Hayes ($5 million), the once discredited Brian Williams ($50 million), David Gregory ($12 million), Wolf Blitzer ($20 million), John Berman ($5 million), Alisyn Camerota ($8 million), and … well you get the point.
Rather than continue down this rabbit hole … if you are curious about others, just search “(name) net worth” and you will find more – a lot more.
I have no problem with people being rich. During my career, I have dealt with lots of millionaires and billionaires. Many – even most – are great people. But there is a segment of the super-rich community that has a sense of superiority and is condescending, like Cooper. In fact, the New York millionaire news crowd is an insulated collection – a culture – of arrogant, condescending snobs who get their leftwing philosophy from a sense of personal superiority.
Even in explaining his slam against middle-classism, Cooper came across with his elitist sense of superiority on full display. It would be a BIG improvement if those reporting the news represented a broader segment of the American public – a little economic diversity — instead of a bunch of homogeneous, tight-knit, leftwing, New York City media plutocrats.
So, there ‘tis.
During the protest at the Capitol Building on Wednesday, a Trump-supporter and former US Air Force Veteran, Ashli Babbitt, was shot dead by a Capitol Police officer as she attempted to climb through a broken window to bypass a barricade.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that he never wants to speak to President Donald Trump again after the events at the US Capitol on Wednesday, according to The Washington Post.
The president has been accused of inciting the riot by urging his supporters at a rally on Wednesday “to fight” and march to the Capitol, where Congress was counting electoral votes and confirming Joe Biden as the president-elect.
After the Capitol was secured and Congress reconvened more than six hours later, McConnell condemned the protesters.
“The United States Senate will not be intimidated,” he said. “We will not be kept out of this chamber by thugs, mobs, or threats. We will not bow to lawlessness or intimidation. We are back at our posts. We will discharge our duty under the Constitution and for our nation.”
He continued, “Even during an ongoing armed rebellion and the Civil War, the clockwork of our democracy has carried on. The United States and the United States Congress have faced down much greater threats than the unhinged crowd we saw today.”
“They tried to disrupt our democracy. They failed,” he said. “This failed insurrection only underscores how crucial the task before us is for our republic.”
Congress finished counting the electoral votes shortly before 4 a.m. ET on Thursday, finalizing Biden’s victory.
On Thursday night, Michael Sherwin, the acting US attorney in Washington, DC, indicated that federal prosecutors were investigating Trump’s role in inciting the insurrection.
“We are looking at all actors here, not only the people that went into the building, but … were there others that maybe assisted or facilitated or played some ancillary role in this,” Sherwin told reporters in a phone call.
The Washington Post reported that when Sherwin was asked whether that included Trump, he said, “We are looking at all actors here, and anyone that had a role, if the evidence fits the element of a crime, they’re going to be charged.”
After Sherwin’s comments, the president released a video condemning the violence at the Capitol.
Using an analogy from President Trump’s favorite game of golf, he is one short putt from being the former President of the United States. Though the press refused to believe or report his statements about leaving office in a peaceful manner, he is pretty much doing that – not withstanding his propensity for provocative rhetoric.
After losing his last constitutional option, Trump reaffirmed his intention to leave the office peacefully. Nothing Trump did to try to officially overturn the election was illegal or unconstitutional. Foolish perhaps – but not criminal. Some of it most certainly seems exercises in futility, but well within his rights to try.
With only a few days left in his presidency, one might expect the hardcore Trump-hating resistance movement to sit back in smug satisfaction and let the clock run out. But no, no, no.
Their latest political insanity is to try to have Trump removed from office before January 20th. There are only two ways that could conceivably be accomplished. They can impeach him in the House and convict him in the Senate. But … even with their control of the Senate, Democrats are extremely unlikely to get that done in a matter of days.
The other option is to have the President’s Cabinet and the Vice President of the United States invoke the 25th Amendment by having Trump declared mentally impaired and unable to fulfill his term in office.
Trump’s critics claim that he is deranged, and likely to use his power in these final days to … to … to do what?
To put some putrid flesh on their ridiculous scenarios, they ominously note that Trump still has “his finger on the nuclear button.” They are really not that stupid, but they are dishonest enough to fool the people into believing that Trump has the ability to arbitrarily launch nuclear weapons. That is not the case – and never has been. Launching a nuclear weapon is an intentionally complex procedure designed to prevent one person from launching an atomic missile. It takes a coordinated effort by the President, the Pentagon and commanders in the field – anyone of whom can prevent a launch. There is absolutely no indication that Trump would even consider such an action.
They also advance a comic theory that Trump might use the military to seize the Oval Office after January 20th in a classic coup attempt. There is not a single military command person who would obey such an unconstitutional and illegal order – and Trump has shown neither the desire nor any indication for such an action.
They worry about Trump using the pardon power on behalf of family, friends and allies. If he did, he would only be following in a well-established tradition. They suggest he might create a constitutional issue (note, I did not say crisis) by pardoning himself. That would likely land in the Supreme Court to decide. It would be great political theater, but not much real damage to the Republic one way or the other.
Or … he could step aside and have a deal to have President Pence pardon him before they both leave office. Of course, that plan is dead on arrival because Pence would not even entertain it.
Some postulate that Trump could issue all kinds of terrible Executive Orders. Even if he were inclined to do so – and I doubt that he is – President Biden would reverse them on day one of the new administration. Just more grist for the Washington gossip mill and more fodder for the Trump-haters, but not much lasting impact.
Even with the level of the anti-Trump bias in the elitist media — and the complete descent down the rabbit hole of nutty theories designed to incite public fear and hatred against Trump — and all those are not willing to join the political vigilante lynch mob – removing Trump from office is a dead-on-arrival story. In fact, it is not a story at all.
But that reality did not stop the old Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein from advancing the nuttiest and most dangerous suggestion of all. He opines that the Cabinet and Vice President Pence agree (conspire) to only follow directives from Pence – essentially block Trump from the powers of the presidency. So … in a totally illegal and unconstitutional manner, the Vice President of the United States would seize the powers of the presidency for the remaining days in what could only be described as a palace coup. With that sort of idea, we should be concerned about Bernstein’s mental cognitively.
President-elect Biden often says, “we are better than this.” The media that admires him to the point of beatification should set the example for his claim. They should be better than that.
So, there ‘tis.
