A patriotic Christian man who refuses to pay income taxes, because he does not want the government using his tax dollars to fund abortions, has won his first day in court.
Like many Christians and other Americans – nearly 60% in fact – Oregon man, Michael Bowman, opposes taxpayers funding abortion. However, unlike most Americans, he is willing to defy the Internal Revenue Service to avoid doing so.
According to local newspaper The Oregonian, Bowman is a 53-year-old Christian and contract engineer in Columbia City, Oregon. He has refused to file a tax return or pay taxes since 1999. His reason? The federal government’s using his tax dollars to fund the abortion industry.
“I’m not a tax protester. I love my country,” he told the paper. “I have a duty to my country. I have a duty to my conscience.”
Indicted for Felony Tax Evasion
The IRS has sent him numerous warnings over unpaid taxes from 2002 to 2014, and in 2012 the Oregon Department of Revenue began garnishing money from Bowman’s bank account. In response, he started cashing out his paychecks and leaving only a minimum balance in his account.
This, federal prosecutors say, constituted “removing his income from the reach of taxing authorities.” They indicted him for felony tax evasion in the amount of $356,857, as well as four misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file tax returns.
Bowman’s attorney, Matthew Schindler, argued that his client was fully transparent every step of the way, from disclosing all of his paychecks to cashing them at his own bank, under his own name.
“Like a player collapsing as they lose Twister, the government has reached too far forward and stretched way too far back,” his motion to dismiss read.
In what many believe to be a surprising, yet encouraging victory for Bowman, US District Judge Michael Mosman sided with Bowman on the felony charge, ruling that the feds failed to show he attempted to conceal income or deceive the government. Prosecutors remain free to re-introduce the charge in the future and are currently weighing whether to do so.
Bowman elaborated on his stand in a recent interview with CBN News.
“First, I would love to pay taxes so as to have a normal life. However, our government is using the tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood; which commits abortions – the death of the innocent,” Bowman said. “Apparently, a woman has the right to choose, but evidently, I do not.”
He also took aim at the common rejoinder that every American citizen has to pay taxes for things with which they might personally disagree, such as war. “You see, the Constitution grants certain abilities to the government, e.g., funding the military, but killing children is not a Constitutional backed, compelling interest of the government by any stretch of the imagination,” Bowman explained.
Bowman vowed that he would continue his one-man tax revolt as long as the government continues to fund the abortion industry.
“My effort is about standing up, standing firm for my Constitutional rights, and getting the government to honor title 42 Chapter 21.b The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, so that I may live a peaceful life, and in the end face God, and hopefully have Him say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!” he said.
President Donald J. Trump has announced that he plans to hold a July 4th “Salute to America” this Independence Day outside of the iconic Lincoln Memorial. The President tweeted, “HOLD THE DATE! We will be having one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C., on July 4th. It will be called “A Salute To America” and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!”
The President did not say if this would include a military parade, which he had admired in other countries, and had planned here, but canceled in 2018, citing a high cost.
Washington D.C. already celebrates Independence Day annually with fireworks on the National Mall and a parade on Constitution Avenue.
Many have taken to social media in praise of Trump’s plans to expand the traditional D.C. celebration into something bigger and better.
Fourth of July Trump Style
This isn’t the first time the president has alluded to having a bigger celebration in D.C. for the yearly holiday. Besides his aforementioned currently scrapped plans for a military parade, he had suggested throwing an event for Independence Day at either National Mall or the Lincoln Memorial during a Cabinet meeting in January.
“It could be a very exciting day,” Trump said. “It’ll be a, really a gathering, as opposed to a parade I guess you’d have to say. Perhaps at the Lincoln Memorial. We’re looking at sites. But we’re thinking about doing something which would become perhaps, become a tradition, Salute to America, on July Fourth or July Fourth weekend, somewhere around that area.”
Despite Trump’s enthusiasm for the event, National Parks Service spokesman Mike Litterst told the Washington Post that “no final decisions have been made” as to where the Salute to America will take place, while the city’s mayor is struggling to find out what makes this celebration different than any other year.
“Every year, Washington, D.C. celebrates the 4th of July with a handful of parades, a matinee baseball game at Nationals Park, a Folklife Festival on the Mall and neighborhood cookouts in all eight wards,” a spokesperson for D.C. Mayor’s Office said. “The day culminates with music and fireworks stretching from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall. Like you, we are still assessing what will be different this year.”
What will be different is the celebrations will be led by a President who knows how to do things in a “huge” and exciting way, so as he says, I would “hold the date” and get ready for the best 4th of July since 1776!
It did not take long for President Donald Trump to react to left-wing activist and vocal anti-Trump film director Spike Lee for his digs at the president during Oscar broadcasting.
In his acceptance speech for winning Best Director for “BlacKkKlansman,” Lee said, “Let’s all mobilize,” he continued. “Let’s all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let’s do the right thing! You know I had to get that in there.”
The Hollywood leftist also praised his ancestors, “who built our country.”
His comments, a direct jab at the president, prompted this scathing response from Trump, who Tweeted Monday morning, “Be nice if Spike Lee could read his notes, or better yet not have to use notes at all, when doing his racist hit on your President, who has done more for African Americans (Criminal Justice Reform, Lowest Unemployment numbers in History, Tax Cuts, etc.) than almost any other Pres!”
Lee Not The Only Oscar Winner to Toss Shade on Trump
Though nominated before, this was the first Oscar for Lee. BlacKkKlansman is based on the true story of a black Colorado detective who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado in the 1970s.
Lee was far from the only Academy Award winner who referred to notes when delivering their acceptance speeches Sunday, nor was he the only attendee who took not so thinly veiled shots at the president during their time on stage.
In the opening monologue of the show, actress Maya Rudolph took a dig at Trump, lumping his reversal on having Mexico pay for a border wall in with the reversal of the Academy in creating a popular movie category and its decision not to have a host for this year’s awards.
“Just a quick update for everybody in case you’re confused,” she said. “There is no host tonight. There won’t be a popular movie category. And Mexico is not paying for the wall.”
Trump, who was up particularly early to give his view on the Oscars, hasn’t yet commented on Rudolph’s jabs, nor the other so-called stars that made subtle digs at the Commander-in-Chief including Barbra Streisand and Javier Bardem.
Earlier this week five cities in Germany saw stabbing attacks on the same day. Several individuals have been hospitalized, and at least two migrants from Iraq and Afghanistan have been declared suspects in connection with the brutal attacks.
This level of violence was once considered a rarity in Germany. However, since the migrant crisis began in 2015, that seems to have all changed.
The first attack happened around 4:40 am on Sunday morning in the city of Cologne following an altercation at a local hookah bar. The dispute escalated, violence broke out, and one of the men ended up stabbing the other multiple times with a sharp object. The victim had to be rushed to the emergency room for surgery so that he didn’t die from loss of blood, the German tabloid Bild reported.
German police later said that they had arrested the 26-year-old man in connection with the case. Apparently, both men were heavily intoxicated at the time of altercation and subsequent knife attack.
Another knife attack occurred in Lower Saxony in the town of Lingren where a 44-year-old woman was dragged from her bicycle by two men who then injured her with a knife. The two thugs were quick to flee the scene after the woman cried out for help. The town of Lingren has a population of just 52,353.
Police in the area have said that they’re investigating the frightening attack as a possible attempted murder. So far, they have been unable to identify the two assailants beyond the victim’s assertion that they were adolescents.
The same day in Nuremberg, another woman, this time only 18-years-old, was attacked around 5 in the morning after a night out with her 21-year-old friends, in what is believed to have been a completely random act of violence. After the young female victim gave police a description of her attacker, they soon arrested a 25-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker in connection with the senseless knife attack.
German police also want a man who has been described as having an Arabic background for another stabbing that took place in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The victim of the knife attack claimed that he had been lured to the place of the attack by an acquaintance where he was then attacked upon his arrival.
The suspect in the fifth knife attack in Frankfurt was only 19-year-old. He called the police and gave himself up after it was alleged that he had taken part in the stabbing of a 22-year-old, along with seven other attackers, which resulted in the victim’s hospitalization.
These five knife attacks come just two months after three women in Nuremberg were stabbed, and a bit over a month after an Afghan migrant killed the unborn child of a pregnant 25-year-old Polish woman after stabbing her repeatedly with a knife.
What is going on in Germany? Why has there been an unprecedented amount of stabbings and sexual assaults in recent years? Could it have anything to do with the two million Middle Eastern and North African migrants that German Chancellor Angela Merkel has let into the country since the migrant crisis began in 2015?
Last Saturday, Matteo Salvini, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior, and leader of the ruling League party, shook the financial establishment in Europe to its core when he called for the elimination of the Italian central bank and the country’s regulator, Consob – saying that the two institutions should be ‘reduced to zero’.Salvini also declared that the banking ‘fraudsters’ who inflicted losses on middle-class Italian savers should ‘end up in prison for a long time.
’But he didn’t stop there. Just yesterday, Salvini shocked banksters in Brussels and Rome again after he floated the idea of seizing the enormous gold reserves from the Bank of Italy, the country’s central bank according to the Financial Times, in a comment given to Italian reporters on Monday, Salvini stated that “The gold is the property of the Italian people, not of anyone else.”Italian media outlets have suggested that the populist coalition government of Salvini’s League and Di Maio’s Five Star Movement could be considering using some of the central bank’s gold reserves to fund spending plans. Salvini has said that he hasn’t looked deeply into the concept of selling the Bank of Italy’s gold reserves to finance additional government spending, but that ‘it could be an interesting idea.’
If Salvini and Di Maio were to monetize the country’s gold, it would certainly bring some much needed financial support to the populist leadership of Italy. After the US and Germany, Italy’s central bank holdings of gold reserves is the third-largest in the world. According to the World Gold Council, Italy’s gold reserves amount to approximately 2,452 tons, which according to today’s prices, amounts to around $103 billion. Salvini’s recent comments against the banking system in Italy have been regarded by EU globalists and Italian banking establishment figures as threatening to the ‘independence’ of the Bank of Italy.
The targeting the country’s central bank comes directly after the Bank of Italy issued bleak economic growth forecasts for the year ahead which contrasted numbers that underpinned the populist government’s planned 2019 budget. Last month, it was reported that Italy entered a technical recession during the second half of 2018. The Bank of Italy has slashed its GDP forecast for 2019 to a measly 0.6% in contrast to the 1% growth estimated by the government.
The European Commission has also cut Italy’s GDP forecast from 1.2% to a meager 0.2% for the year of 2019. Budget issues are likely to be a renewed source of tension between Brussels and Rome during the upcoming months. Salvini’s latest words mark the most recent in a series of intensifying verbal attacks directed toward Italian establishment figures and European technocrats abroad just ahead of next month’s EU parliamentary elections.
Earlier this week on Tuesday, Hayden Williams, a young man who’s affiliated with the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was viciously attacked by a rabid leftist who disapproved of the signs that were set up around the organization’s recruitment table.
The politically motivated attack was caught on video, at first by Williams himself before the two attackers knocked it from his hands, and later by onlookers. Video footage shows the man who attacked Williams shouting, “Motherf*cker. You racist little inbred b*tch. C*nt. I’ll shoot you!”
Police reported that one of the two men knocked over the table, and then punched Williams in the face several times, inflicting noteworthy injuries.
The two suspects had left the scene by the time campus police arrived.
Witnesses of the attack have told members from the media that signs at the recruitment table read: ‘We Support Our President’, ‘This is MAGA Country’, and ‘Hate Crime Hoaxes Hurt Real Victims’, a reference to Empire actor Jessie Smollet’s staged racist and homophobic attack against himself last month in Chicago.
In an interview with Campus Reform, Williams said, “Some students nearby tabling were laughing, even one guy was smiling while I was being attacked and trying to hand me his flyer as a joke. The idea is free speech has consequences…. which include you getting assaulted if they find you promoting ideas others don’t agree with.”
The incident has garnered attention from several prominent conservative figures.
In a tweet, Donold Trump Jr. wrote, “When a liberal like Jussie cries wolf and fakes an attack he receives unmatched coverage, sympathy & support creating a tsunami of attention. When a conservative student literally gets punched in the face and it’s caught on video it barely makes a ripple.”
Senator Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, wrote, “’This is abhorrent behavior against free speech on campus. No form of violence is acceptable.”
Conservative groups across the country have claimed for a long time now that students who lean to the right side of the political spectrum have repeatedly been targets for harassment and violent assault by leftists over the views that they hold. In an interview given to Fox News, Charlie Kirk, the founder and executive director of Turning Point USA stated that, “ College campuses have become increasingly unsafe for conservatives.”
They aren’t wrong.
The incident is just the most recent in a series violent, ideologically inspired attacks against conservatives on college campuses across the United States.
Campus police are currently investing that assault and are asking the public for information on the perpetrators.
During the run-up to the 2020 elections, look for political violence and the hate campaign against conservative Americans to reach levels that have never been seen before.
A study recently published by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and projections released by the European Parliament have both suggested that national populist Euroskeptic parties from the left and right are poised to make significant gains in May’s European Parliamentary elections.
The ECFR is a pan-European think tank with offices in seven European capitals. It’s recently published report suggests that populist Euroskeptic parties will win at least a third or more of the total seats in the European Parliament.
The parliament’s projections, which are based on some national polls which were assessed by Kantar Public, a data research firm and consultancy, are slightly different. These projections suggest that the same parties are on track to hold about a fifth of the seats in the European Parliament after elections in May.
The ECFR’s report says that the elections could “see a group of nationalist anti-European political parties that advocate a return to a ‘Europe of the nations’ win a controlling share of seats in the European Parliament.”
The irony of the globalist led pan-European think-tank using the word ‘anti-European political parties’ is that they’re of course referring to what an ever increasing number of Europeans would surely think of as pro-European parties who stand for the rights and interests of everyday native-born European people. Parties like Lega in Italy, National Rally in France, Fidesz in Hungary, Law & Justice in Poland, and others cut from the same cloth are the parties that ECFR is specifically referring to.
The ascent of these parties like these could ‘undermine and cause irreparable damage to areas such as trade, security, and defense’ the report states.
Voters from the UK will not be participating due to their scheduled exit from the union on March 29th. The new 2019 parliament will be composed of a total of 705 seats, down from its current 751 positions due to UK’s planned exit from the 28-nation bloc.
European parliament spokesman, Jaume Duche Guillot has said that this election represents ‘one of the biggest democratic exercises anywhere in the world,’ with 373 million citizens from 27 different European countries having a chance to vote.
The new parliament will be tasked with formulating new EU legislation over the next five years as well as choosing the successor to the current head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
According to the parliament’s projections based off of Kantar Public’s research, national populist Euroskeptic parties are predicted to occupy 153 seats of the 705-seat parliament. Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini’s Lega is poised to become the parliament’s second largest national party with 27 total seats after Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), who currently controls 29 seats. France’s National Rally party headed by Marine Le Pen is also expected to make significant gains. Italy’s Lega and France’s National Rally both belong to the Europe of Nations and Freedom (ENF) group, a right-wing populist and Euroskeptic alliance which also includes parties like the Dutch Party of Freedom and Austria’s Freedom Party. After May’s election, the total number of seats occupied by the ENF group inside of the EU legislator is expected to increase from 37 to 59.
Poland’s right-wing populist Law and Justice Party (PiS) and Italy’s populist, anti-establishment and anti-globalization party, Five Star Movement, are both expected to grab many seats from the top conservative European People’s Party (EPP).
The European People’s Party (EPP) is considered the bloc’s center-right conservative group, but also has MEPs from Hungary’s right-wing populist Fidesz party. The EPP is expected to remain the largest voting bloc inside of the European Parliament.
So, depending on the source, be it the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) or the European Parliament itself, after May’s elections national populist and Euroskeptic forces hold anywhere from 1/5 to over 1/3 of the new parliament’s seats.
For the people of Europe, this is excellent news. As for the anti-European, technocratic globalist elite in Brussels, you can bet that they’re more than disappointed with these latest projections as this alliance of national populist parties could cause irreparable damage to neoliberal internationalists on the continent.
A former top reporter for CBS News is calling out the so-called mainstream media for their left-wing bias and anti-Trump agenda. Of course, this has long been said by Trump and his supporters, but this is the first time a well-known correspondent from within one such organization, has publically admitted the left wing slant of the major news organizations.
Lara Logan who worked for CBS News, and was a featured contributor for 60 Minutes, was known for covering war-torn spots in the Middle East for the network. However, she parted ways with CBS when recently during a guest appearance on an episode of retired Navy SEAL Mike Ritland’s “Mike Drop” podcast, she said, “The media everywhere is mostly liberal. But in this country, 85 percent of journalists are registered Democrats.”
“Unless you seek out Breitbart on your computer, you’re probably not even going to know what the other side is saying,” Logan told Ritland.
Logan Commits Career Suicide
Instead of backpedaling, Logan expanded on her comments to Ritland on a recent episode of “Hannity,” telling host Sean Hannity that she knew her comments on “Mike Drop,” were “professional suicide.”
She then went on to say that the hostility hurled at her from members of the mainstream media only served as evidence that her claims of left-wing media bias are spot on.
“It’s obvious, right, because you get targeted. It’s the same group of people. They’re already starting to target me again now and I was expecting it. I know they’re gonna come after me again. The same people come after you.”
Logan, who was visibly angry during the interview, did not hold back in naming who those “people” are.
“Michael Calderone, who was at the Huffington Post. I can literally give you the script now, I can tell you who the players are. Joe Hagan, Brian Stelter, it’s the same people all the time and they’re all saying the same things and they come after Cheryl Atkinson, they come after you, they come after me,” she said.
“If there are any independent voices out there, if there are any journalists that are not beating the same drum and giving the same talking points, then we pay the price.”
She accused her critics of engaging in smear tactics as opposed to attacking “the substance of what you’re saying.”
“They can’t go after the things that matter, so they smear you personally, they go after your integrity, they go after your reputation as a person and as a professional and they’ll stop at nothing,” she claimed.
“This is the problem that I have. There’s one Fox, and there’s many, many, many more organizations on the Left,” she continued. “The problem is the weight of all these organizations on one side of the political spectrum. When you turn on your computer, or you walk past the TV, or you see a newspaper headline in the grocery store, if they’re all saying the same thing, the weight of that convinces you that it’s true. You don’t question it – because everyone is saying it.”
In a response to a largely unsubstantiated article in the New York Times, President Trump has targeted the paper as the “true enemy of the people.” While the president has often used such terminology referring to the mainstream media in general, this time he singled out the NYT, tweeting, “The New York Times reporting is false. They are a true ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”
Trump’s tweet was believed to be a response to a recently published Times article which detailed his alleged “two-year war on the investigations encircling him.”
In an earlier tweet, Trump claimed journalists “don’t even call asking for verification” about stories they are planning to publish about his administration ― a post which is also being interpreted as an attack on Times reporters.
That tweet said, “The Press has never been more dishonest than it is today. Stories are written that have absolutely no basis in fact. The writers don’t even call asking for verification. They are totally out of control. Sadly, I kept many of them in business. In six years, they all go BUST!”
Times Reporter Fires Back
The writer of the piece that raised Trump’s ire, Maggie Haberman, fired back in response to the president’s assertions, claiming that she indeed did contact the White House about her story. In an interview with CNN’s “New Day,” she said that she sent several emails to the White House about the planned story “that went unanswered” until the story was published.
“We went through a detailed list of what we were planning on reporting,” she explained. “They chose not to engage and then afterwards the president acts surprised.”
“Now whether his aides are not telling him what we are looking at or whether this is a game and he knows what it is and he’s pretending that he doesn’t, I can’t read his mind,” she speculated. “We certainly followed normal reporting practices and went over it at length with both the White House and the Department of Justice.”
Haberman’s piece touched on everything from the firing of James Comey to Trump allegedly pressuring former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to lie about Trump asking for Michael Flynn’s resignation. It also alleges, with no evidence, that Trump discussed having Flynn and Paul Manafort pardoned as a means to entice them against cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
Trump also took to twitter to take a jab at the Washington Post when he learned of the Covington students suing the Washington Post for 250 million dollars for “practicing a modern-day form of McCarthyism.”
“The Washington Post ignored basic journalistic standards because it wanted to advance its well-known and easily documented biased agenda against President Donald J. Trump.” Covington student suing WAPO. Go get them Nick. Fake News!
Against the backdrop of President’s Day, 14 states lead by bastions of Liberal thought — California and New York — have united to file an ill-advised lawsuit challenging Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration.
“Today, on Presidents Day, we take President Trump to court to block his misuse of presidential power,” California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement. President Trump “is willing to manipulate the Office of the Presidency to engage in unconstitutional theater performed to convince his audience that he is committed to his ‘beautiful’ border wall. We’re suing President Trump to stop him from unilaterally robbing taxpayer funds lawfully set aside by Congress for the people of our states.”
Joining California in the suit are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Virginia.
“There Is No National Emergency”
Becerra’s statement slammed the president’s justification for a national emergency as a “hyped crisis.”
“Unlawful southern border entries are at their lowest point in 20 years, immigrants are less likely than native-born citizens to commit crimes, and illegal drugs are more likely to come through official ports of entry,” the attorney general’s statement said.
“The only national emergency is the president’s trafficking in lies and deceit,” Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said in a statement earlier Monday.
The lawsuit is in response to Trump saying that he intends to bypass Congress by declaring a national emergency to build a border wall along the nation’s southern border. This, even after Congress has repeatedly declined to give the president billions to build the border barriers that were such a huge part of his 2016 campaign.
Of course Trump saw this play coming, and he had predicted the lawsuit last week. He has slammed the Ninth Circuit multiple times as “disgraceful” and politically biased. California has repeatedly challenged Trump in court. Becerra has filed at least 45 lawsuits against the administration.
Many legal scholars do not agree with Trump’s opponents who insist that his emergency declaration falls outside of constitutional bounds. In a rambling riff on the question, delivered as an aside to his declaration of emergency last Friday, Trump predicted the matter would be appealed to the US supreme court – where given the current make-up of the Court, he would likely prevail.
